VEGAN NAIL POLISH
BZ Lady nail polishes are Vegan
… but what does it mean exactly?
We usually see the word vegan associated with food, but it also happens that we see it associated with other products that are not meant to be eaten. Of course, we don’t eat or drink nail polish, so how can it be vegan?
In the cosmetic industry, we use the term vegan to designate a product that is not tested on animals and which is not using animal-derived ingredients in its formulation.
For many years animal by-products were commonly used in traditional nail polish. As a whole, the cosmetics industry had been in the hot seat, thanks to its heavy use of animal by-products and animal cruelty.
In nail polish, there is still unfortunately a fairly common use of animal-derived ingredients especially in some metallic and shimmery shades. Check the ingredients labels for the words “pearl” or “guanine”. These two ingredients are literally made from small fish scales and skin, suitably cleaned, and mixed with solvents such as castor oil and butyl acetate. The guanine can also be present in some gold, silver, and bronze shades.
At BZ Lady, our metallic and shimmery shades are created with a natural mineral substitute named Mica. This way, our color formulations remain animal by-product free.
BZ Lady is proud to offer Vegan nail polishes because beautiful nails should never be achieved with the use of animal parts.
We know you are busy enough to have to worry about these things.
